Working from home might be the ‘new normal’ but that doesn’t mean your surroundings have to be subpar. In our MADEover series, we’re helping YouTubers take their unloved rooms from zero to hero. Scroll on to see how we transformed Dutch vlogger Aimée van der Pijl’s empty guest room into a stylish home office.
With a varied content mix like Aimée’s, her workspace has to flex accordingly – and still look good on the ’gram. “I need a multi-functional workspace where I can film as well as edit,” she told us. “Plus, room to store all my equipment.” The scene pre-MADEover? A recently renovated, blank canvas of a room. And Aimée’s brief? “Soft colours, natural materials and pieces with sculptural curves.”
A desk is the hero piece of any home office setup and Aimée agrees: “Not only is Leoni great for working on, but it’s got lots of storage space – ideal for my (many) notebooks and pens.” Clutter? You’re on mute.
All YouTubers appreciate good lighting, and the Java table lamp is a real glow-getter – especially that 'right now' rattan shade. The sleek Nyro floor light makes the perfect business partner (and vlogging background). Lights sorted? Camera, action.
Not everyone is #blessed with having a dedicated workspace at home, and Aimée is no exception. “Our house isn’t the biggest so we use my office as a guest room when needed.” And that’s where Haru comes in. Aimée says: “The sofa’s such a lovely colour, and it flips into a bed in seconds. It’s really nice to have that option.” We added the Caram rug for extra cosy, plus the handcrafted Elian pouffe – so jute!
Being able to stow away fugly camera equipment is important – but so is taking shelfies. Enter Tambo: pretty yet incredibly practical. “This sideboard is amazing!” Aimée enthuses. “I store all my gear inside and there’s still plenty of space left over. I dress it with different pieces whenever I feel like a change. It completes the room.” Other picture-perfect finishing touches? Abstract art and lots of greenery.
What does Aimée think of the finished look? “This MADEover is a total game-changer. Now I have a space where I can be creative and feel happy. I can’t wait to get to work.”
