Feast on this: how to style the ultimate dinner party

Fine dining at home is undeniably grown-up. So whether it’s your first time hosting or the first of the month, you’ll want to get it right and leave your guests wanting more. Here are our tips and tricks on how to throw a dinner party – and give it the 5* treatment.

Table talk

Table (manners) first. If your current set up is lacking in lustre, think of upgrading to a stylish extendable table. Ideal for every day, they can double in size when you’re hosting. Go all out and invest in textured yet neutral placemats to make your table accessories pop. Because when you set an interesting table, it – almost – doesn’t matter what you serve.

It’s lit

Recreating the ambient mood of 5* restaurants is easy – just lower the lights. For that soft warm glow, a modern candelabra would be the perfect touch. It’ll spotlight your centrepieces and light up your guests.

Matchy matchy

Want to max out on the luxe look? Add bold and rich colour to your table accessories. From your napkins to your plates and even the chairs you sit on, it’s time to get comfortable with decadence.

Metallic moments

From glints of gold to contemporary black chrome, metallics set the tone of the table. When you’re picking cutlery, go for a quirky twist like brushed gold – an alternative shade to silver.

Gleaming glass

Get the juice flowing with coloured wine glasses. A playful nod to 70s style, your guests won’t stop talking about the flush of colour. Try sculptural shapes and textural finishes on glassware too, they’ll go down a treat.

Raise your game

Cake stands are the new serving platters. If you pick marble or brass finishes, they’ll make striking focal pieces your guests will marvel at. The varying heights at your table also adds more space. Now there’s room for even more food.
