To celebrate London Underground’s 150-year design history, MADE collaborated with Transport for London to create a range inspired by their iconic design heritage. Now you can enjoy the tube’s design history without having to commute.

Today, London Underground is one of the busiest tube networks in the world. But in the 1900s it was struggling to fill seats. Frank Pick, head of branding and publicity was tasked with reversing the Tube’s fortunes. Pick insisted on solid quality absolutely everywhere. Even using brass buttons on ticket kiosks, which incidentally, have lasted over a century. Noted and added to our Kilburn storage.

Seats were upholstered in patterned wool moquette. It was durable, fashionable and disguised daily grime. Each pattern was tested to ensure it didn’t cause motion sickness when the trains moved - a test London Underground still does with its new fabrics today.
